Parent Responsibilities

A Rewarding Experience

You’ll be an active participant in your child’s education at WPENS.

  • See firsthand what your child is learning
  • Witness and support developing friendships and learn ways to expand your children’s interests. Model for your child how important education is because you’ll be right there in the classroom with him or her
  • Learn new parenting skills, and have the chance to practice them in the classroom with the help of a credentialed teacher.
  • Make new friends and be part of a caring community working together to support each other
  • Develop skills that will make you a valuable volunteer and leader in the schools your child will go on to attend.
  • Increase your work skills and build community with your support job

Parent Participation

Involvement in a cooperative preschool is a sizable time commitment. Each parent is registered as a student with Watsonville Aptos Santa Cruz Adult Education School and works with credentialed teachers in the preschool classroom. A parent from each family must:

  • Work in the classroom once a week.
  • Attend a monthly evening membership meeting/parent education seminar.
  • Choose a support job such as librarian, shopper, phone tree, organizer, photographer, gardener, etc.
  • Participate in three school clean up days.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts.

“My family absolutely loves WPENS! The teachers are extremely knowledgeable regarding child development and social and emotional needs of young children. The lessons they provide daily are engaging, fun, and educational. When you enroll your child at WPENS, both children and adults join a community where everyone supports one another. It truly feels like family, which is great for us because all our family lives far away. You will not regret joining the WPENS community.” – Suzie B.
